Attack on TDP office: Complainant takes U-turn

In a shock to the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leadership, a computer operator at the TDP office at Gannavaram in Krishna district turned hostile in the case related to attack on the office by the YSRCP workers allegedly at the behest of former MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi five years ago.

In a statement before the judge on Monday, Mudunuru Satyavardhan, a computer operator at the TDP office, said he had no connection with the case and had not witnessed any attack on the TDP office.

During the YSRCP regime, followers of former MLA Vallabhaneni Vamsi allegedly attacked the TDP office with sticks and stones, causing extensive damage. Though the case was hushed up at that time, it was reopened after the TDP-led coalition government came to power.

The Gannavaram police registered a case based on a complaint filed by Satyavardhan and later transferred it to the Crime Investigation Department (CID). As many as 88 people were named as accused, including Vamsi.

Among them, 39 individuals filed anticipatory bail petitions in the SC/ST Atrocities Court in Vijayawada. On Monday, Judge Himabindu completed the arguments on the bail petitions and questioned Satyavardhan.

To the surprise of the TDP leaders, Satyavaradhan took a U-turn, claiming that he had no connection with the case and that the police had taken his signature as a witness and falsely made him the complainant.

He submitted an affidavit stating that he was neither present at the time of the attack nor was he subjected to any caste-based abuse. The judge recorded his statement.
