Within a week after being discharged from hospital and sent to Vijayawada sub-jail, former minister and TDP deputy leader in the assembly K Atchen Naidu is back in the hospital.
The Andhra Pradesh high court on Wednesday gave a ruling that the state government shift Atchen Naidu back to a private hospital, in the wake of his precarious health condition, for better treatment.
The public prosecutor, however, opposed the court directions stating that it was the prerogative of the government hospital superintendent to decide where an accused should be given the treatment. The high court, however, dismissed this argument.
The court ordered that Atchen Naidu be shifted to a private hospital which has all the facilities. In all probability, he would be shifted to Ramesh Hospital in Guntur.
Atchen Naidu was arrested in connection with the multi-crore Employees State Insurance scam last month from his residence in Srikakulam district.
He was brought to Vijayawada for interrogation and later remanded to judicial custody. Subsequently, he was taken to Guntur General Hospital for treatment as per the court directions.
However, after the police custody for three days, Atchen Naidu was forcibly discharged and shifted to the prison in Vijayawada amid objections and protests by TDP leaders in front of the GGH. The doctors discharged him stating that he was in good health.
