It is more or less confirmed that former minister and senior TDP legislator from Tekkali assembly constituency in Srikakulam district Kinjarapu Atchan Naidu is going to be the party president of Andhra Pradesh unit.
According to party sources, Naidu on Tuesday finalised Atchan’s name as the state TDP president after taking opinion from the senior party leaders.
Majority of them supported Atchan’s candidature because of his mass appeal and also aggressive attitude.
Sources said Naidu might announce the name of Atchan Naidu as the AP TDP president on September 27. He might also announce a new executive of the TDP for Andhra Pradesh on the same day.
The TDP chief has been working on revamping the party unit in Andhra Pradesh for quite some time in the wake of desertions from the party.
Till recently, he had not been coming regularly to Amaravati, but now he has started making himself available in his party office.
There has been a talk in the party that Naidu would replace present AP TDP president Kala Venkat Rao, who reportedly offered to step down after the party’s debacle in the last elections.
Most of the party leaders reportedly felt that Atchan Naidu, being relatively younger, would be suitable for the party because of his strong voice and fighting spirit. Moreover, he is from Backward Classes from north coastal Andhra, where the TDP base is gradually eroding due to YSRC and BJP.
