Atchan Naidu Remanded To 14-Day Jail

TDP Andhra state unit president and former minister Kinjarapu Atchan Naidu was on Tuesday remanded to 14-day judicial custody in connection with the alleged threatening and intimidation of a YSRCP leader in his native village Nimmada a couple of days ago.

Earlier in the morning, the Kotabommali police arrested Atchan Naidu at his residence at Nimmada and shifted him to the police station.

After conducting medical tests, he was produced before the local court, which remanded him to judicial custody.

Atchan was later taken to Srikakulam district jail. He is expected to file a bail petition in a day or two.

The police acted on a complaint given by the YSR Congress party leaders that he had threatened and intimidated his own cousin, who is contesting for the sarpanch post in Nimmada with the support of YSRC. Incidentally, Atchan’s wife is also contesting for the same post.

The TDP leaders are arguing that Atchan had telephoned his cousin and only requested him to withdraw his nomination in support of Atchan’s wife. They even produced the audio recording of Atchan’s conversation with the cousin.

But the YSRC leaders lodged a false complaint to the police alleging that the Atchan had threatened their candidate.

The TDP leaders also pointed out that the police had not taken any action against YSRC in-charge of Tekkali constituency Duvvada Srinivas who came to Nimmada along with his followers holding weapons and rods.
