At last, Andhra Pradesh chief secretary L V Subrahmanyam met Telugu Desam Party president and chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu at the latter’s residence at Vundavalli in Amaravati on Monday.
This is for the first time that Subrahmanyam had met Naidu after taking over as the chief secretary on April 6, replacing former chief secretary Anil Chandra Punetha who was removed from the post by the Election Commission for allegedly defying its orders on the transfer of then state intelligence chief A B Venkateshwar Rao.
According to sources in the Secretariat, Subrahmanyam had more than an hour meeting with Naidu, reportedly to discuss about the proposed cabinet meet and other issues.
He conveyed to Naidu that the EC had not yet given the green signal to the meeting scheduled for Tuesday, though he had sent the proposal on May 9 itself.
Apparently, Naidu suggested that the if the EC did not give any approval to the cabinet meeting by evening, he would simply hold a review meeting with officials to discuss the steps being taken for mitigation of drinking water crisis, drought conditions in the state and the damage done to north coastal Andhra due to cyclone Fani.
Sources said both Naidu and chief secretary confined themselves to only official matters and neither of them raised any topic over the differences between them. The meeting went on smoothly, sources said.
It may be mentioned that the chief minister had raised strong exception to the appointment of Subrahmanyam as chief secretary, as he felt the latter was a “covert” of YSR Congress party and a co-accused in the quid pro quo case involving YSRC president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.
On the other hand, Subrahmanyam also said Naidu had no powers as the chief ministers during the period in which the model of conduct was in force.
He had never meet Naidu since his appointment as the chief secretary and claimed that he had not been called for any meeting by the chief minister.
