Assembly Sessions: A Flop Show With No Opposition

People are losing interest in the Andhra Pradesh Assembly sessions, turning their attention instead to the Legislative Council meetings.

YSRCP President YS Jagan and his party’s representatives have been absent from the Assembly, leading to criticism that the sessions have become a platform for self-praise and personal attacks.

The Assembly budget sessions began with the Governor’s speech. On that day, all YSRCP members, including Jagan, attended the session.

However, they disrupted the Governor’s speech, demanding that YSRCP be granted opposition status in the Assembly.

Their demand was ignored, prompting the party to boycott the sessions, claiming that the coalition government had no intention of recognizing them as the opposition. Since then, the Assembly sessions have gone largely unnoticed.

During the Assembly meetings, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan have been subjected to relentless praise, while coalition members focus on criticizing Jagan, who isn’t even present. These repeated insults have become tiresome even for their own supporters.

Meanwhile, the coalition members' excessive praise for Chandrababu and Pawan Kalyan seems to be wearing them out as well. Even within the coalition, many are growing frustrated with the constant attacks on Jagan.

What kind of Assembly meetings are these? Instead of meaningful discussions, they have become dull and unproductive due to the lack of opposition.

Public issues are barely being addressed, making people perceive these sessions as mere internal affairs of the ruling alliance.

In contrast, the situation in the Legislative Council is different. YSRCP members are aggressively challenging the coalition government, staging protests over policy implementation.

This has sparked discussions about the Council’s growing influence and its role in holding the government accountable.
