At last, senior Indian Information Service officer Tumma Vijay Kumar Reddy, who served as Commissioner of Information and Public Relations during the Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government in Andhra Pradesh till recently, managed to get back to his parent department.
The 1990-batch Selection Grade IIS Group-A officer was repatriated to the Union Information and Broadcasting department on Thursday and was posted as Director General (Media and Communication) in the Press Information Bureau, Kolkata with immediate effect and until further orders.
Apparently, Reddy used his good offices with the department officials at the Centre and managed to get the relieving orders from the General Administration Department of the Andhra Pradesh government, which refused to relieve him till now, pending inquiry against him for acts of omission and commission during his tenure in the last five years.
Reddy faced allegations of largescale corruption during his tenure in release of advertisements to various print, electronic, digital and social media in the last five years.
He made a futile attempt to get back into the central service after the YSRCP lost power in the recent assembly elections.
A few days ago, Reddy got himself relieved from the state government taking advantage of the provision of automatic relief on completion of deputation in Andhra Pradesh and tried to report to the Union ministry of information and broadcasting in New Delhi.
He told them that his deputation had come to an end by June 9 and since no extension was given to him, he be allowed to return to the parent cadre. However, the Union ministry refused to take him back into the service unless he obtained the relieving letter from the state government.
The GAD authorities have refused to relieve him stating that there was no clearance from the chief minister’s office.
Even before TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu took charge as the chief minister, he gave strict instructions to the GAD authorities not to relieve any officers who were on deputation and played a very key role during the Jagan government.
