AP in irreparable financial mess, says IYR

Former chief secretary of Andhra Pradesh I Y R Krishna Rao, who is presently in Bharatiya Janata Party as an advisor, doesn’t lose an opportunity to take pot shots at the Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government in the state, especially with regard to financial administration.

On Wednesday, Krishna Rao expressed concern over the deep financial crisis in the state, stating that the state government was in an irreparable financial mess due to indiscriminate borrowing for the sake of welfare schemes.

“If anybody wants to know how to prepare the budget, one should look into the Union budget. And if anybody wants to know how not to formulate a budget, one should see the Andhra Pradesh budget,” he said.

The former IAS officer said no state would witness development, if it has a government that would spend money indiscriminately without balancing it with the revenues.

“The state government is going in for huge debts and the entire burden has to be borne by the people tomorrow,” he said.

Krishna Rao called for imposition of a condition on all the political parties contesting the elections that they should show the source of income for the state to fulfil their promises, if they come to power after the elections.

“The Election Commission should bring in that condition,” he suggested.

Meanwhile, BJP Rajya Sabha member G V L Narasimha Rao alleged that the state government was diverting the Central funds to its own schemes.

He pointed out that the Modi government had given huge funds to Andhra Pradesh, compared to any other state, in the last eight years.

“In fact, the contribution of AP to the Centre in the form of tax revenue is very less due to deficit budget. I am ready to explain with detailed statistics as to how much Andhra Pradesh had received over the years,” he said.
