AP in danger zone: Two more deaths, 19 more cases

Andhra Pradesh recorded two more deaths due to Coronavirus and 19 fresh positive cases in just 12 hours, taking the total number of deaths in the state to 11 and positive cases to 502 on Wednesday morning.

According to a bulletin issued by the health department, that AP crossed 500 mark in the positive cases is a dangerous signal, as there is no respite in the number of cases. 

Eight new cases were reported from West Godavari, six in Kurnool, four in Guntur and one in Krishna district. Out of 502 positive cases till now, of which 16 patients were discharged and 11 succumbed to the dreaded disease.

The bulletin said two men from the same family, one aged 63 years and another 52 years, belonging to Kummari Bazar of Guntur town succumbed to Covid-19. It said both the family members had shown symptoms for Coronavirus during community screening on April 6. 

“They were admitted to Guntur general hospital and on April 8, both of them tested positive. The younger of the two was shifted to Vijayawada a day later because of other complications. Both of them died on April 13,” the bulletin said.

While Srikakulam and Vizianagaram districts continued to record zero positive cases till now, Guntur has emerged as the hotspot for Covid-19 with 118 positive cases including four deaths.

“It is unfortunate that more cases are emerging in Guntur district. The district authorities have been kept on high alert and instructed to see that lockdown restrictions are implemented strictly,” municipal administration minister Botsa Satyanarayana said.
