The Andhra Pradesh government has initiated disciplinary proceedings against senior IPS officer and former Crime Investigation Department (CID) chief P V Sunil Kumar, who is allegedly involved in the torture of former MP and current Assembly Deputy Speaker K Raghu Ramakrishnam Raju, as well as in corruption allegations related to the fire services department.
Although Sunil Kumar has already been suspended over the corruption charges in the fire services department, the state government has now framed fresh charges against him.
These include claims that, during the tenure of former Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, he frequently traveled to Dubai and other foreign countries without obtaining prior approval from the government.
In a memo served to him on Thursday, the government noted that, in several instances, Sunil Kumar reportedly obtained permission to visit one country but traveled to a different one instead.
Based on these actions, six charges have been registered against him. The government has accused him of willfully violating the All India Services (Conduct) Rules and engaging in serious indiscipline and misconduct.
The government has directed Sunil Kumar to submit a written statement of defense and indicate whether he wishes to be heard in person, within 30 days of receiving the order.
“An inquiry will be held only on those charges that are not admitted. He is, therefore, required to specifically admit or deny each article of charge,” the order stated.
