AP CS gets extension, Ladda new intelligence chief?

The Narendra Modi government at the Centre on Thursday approved a proposal of the N Chandrababu Naidu government in Andhra Pradesh seeking extension of service of chief secretary Neerabh Kumar Prasad by a period of  another six months.

In a communication to the state government, Bhupinder Pal Singh, under secretary in the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), said the Centre had considered the proposal of the state government for the extension of service of Neerabh Kumar Prasad.

As such, Prasad, who would be retiring by June 30 on attaining the age of superannuation, would continue in the service from July 1 to December 31.

It may be mentioned that Prasad took over as the chief secretary in the first week of June, after his predecessor K S Jawahar Reddy went on a long leave, following the defeat of YSR Congress party in the assembly elections on June 4.

Meanwhile, the Centre has also obliged the request of the Naidu government for repatriation of senior IPS officer Mahesh Chandra Ladda from his central deputation back to the Andhra Pradesh cadre.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) approved for repatriation of Ladda, a 1998 batch officer to his parent cadre Andhra Pradesh with immediate effect. An order to this effect was issued on June 26, according to Sanjeev Kumar, Under Secretary to Government of India.

In all probability, Ladda, who is presently the inspector general of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) is likely to be appointed as Andhra Pradesh Intelligence chief.

At present, IPS officer Kumar Vishwajeet, 1994 batch officer, is presently working as the Director-General, Intelligence.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) appointed Vishwajeet as Intelligence DG ahead of elections in Andhra Pradesh in April 2024.

Ladda earlier won accolades for effectively dealing with left wing extremism in united Andhra Pradesh.

In 2020, the State government placed the services of Mahesh Chandra Ladda at the disposal of the MHA for appointment to the post of IG CRPF on deputation basis for a period of five years.
