AP cabinet okays PRC, 5-men panel to study objections

With the “unscientific” pay revision of the Andhra Pradesh state government employees is snowballing into a major controversy, chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday appointed yet another committee to study the objections raised by the employees on Pay Revision Commission GOs.

The state cabinet headed by the chief minister approved the new PRC report and decided to implement the same.

“The cabinet decided that the government will implement what was announced by the chief minister last week. It also approved the increase in retirement age from 60 years to 62 years,” state minister for information Perni Nani said after the cabinet meeting.

At the same time, the cabinet also discussed the issue of the discontent among the employees over the GOs issued on Monday for the implementation of the PRC report.

The committee comprises information minister Perni Nani, finance minister Buggana Rajendranath Reddy and municipal administration minister Botsa Satyanarayana, state government advisor on public affairs Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy and chief secretary Sameer Sharma.

The committee has been asked to study the demands of the employees, assess the state financial position and then make appropriate recommendations.

This is the third committee appointed by the government on pay revision of the employees. The first PRC was headed by retired IAS officer Asutosh Mishra, which submitted its report to the Jagan government a few months back.

On this, the government appointed a committee headed by chief secretary Sameer Sharma, which recommended only 14.93 per cent hike in salaries. On this, Jagan gave a hike of around 9 per cent, while announcing the PRC report.
