Another wicket down in Telangana TDP

Telugu Desam Party in Telangana, which has almost been defunct with the defection of several senior party leaders and cadre into various parties, mainly the Telangana Rashtra Samithi and Bharatiya Janata Party, witnessed yet another defection on Monday.

Telangana Telugu Yuvatha president T Virender Goud, son of senior TDP leader and former Rajya Sabha member T Devender Goud, announced his resignation from the post and the primary membership of the party.

He said he was pained at the TDP losing its principles and core philosophy in the recent past, for which the party was known since its foundation by N T Rama Rao in 1982.

He, however, expressed his gratitude for the party for giving him an opportunity to grow as a political leader.

The defection of Virender Goud had been on cards for quite some time. In fact, he and his father Devender Goud had held talks with the BJP leadership sometime back and were only waiting for the right to take a decision.

Surprisingly, the announcement of quitting the TDP came only from Virender at present. May be Devender Goud has changed his mind as he has not been keeping well for quite some and he might not get anything in the BJP even after defection.

Virender unsuccessfully contested from Uppal assembly constituency in the last assembly elections in Telangana held in December. Since then, a large number of defections took place from the party into the TRS and BJP.

And Virender is most likely to choose the BJP for sustaining his political career.
