Anna canteen colour: YSRCP's tit-for-tat to TDP

Anna canteen colour: YSRCP's tit-for-tat to TDP

In a virtual tit-for-tat to the ruling Telugu Desam Party in Andhra Pradesh, the YSR Congress party has moved the state high court challenging the Chandrababu Naidu government’s move to paint “yellow” colour to the Anna Canteens, the subsidised food outlets opened all over the state in the last two months.

Senior YSRCP leader and former AP NGOs’ association president R Chandrasekhar Reddy filed a petition in the high court, alleging that the Naidu government was trying to paint all the official buildings with yellow colour, which symbolises the TDP.

“As part of that, the government painted yellow colour to Anna Canteen outlets. As the colour represents the TDP, it is evident that the ruling party is trying to take political advantage from the government schemes,” he argued.

Reddy pointed out that in the past, when the YSRCP government painted blue, green and white colours to the official buildings, it was challenged in the court on the ground that these colours represented YSRCP.

“Even the high court and the Supreme Court found fault with the then government and got these colours removed. The courts even admitted contempt petition when the government took some time to remove the colours,” he pointed out.

The YSRCP leader argued that similar rule will apply to the TDP, as we have information that starting with Anna Canteens, all the office buildings would be painted yellow.

The high court sought to know which colour Anna canteens had in the past.

“In any case, how can you decide the party based on the colour,” it asked and posted the case for further hearing after six weeks.
