Popular evangelist Brother Anil Kumar, husband of YSR Telangana Party president Y S Sharmila, has not officially disclosed any plans of launching a new party in Andhra Pradesh, though his comments at Visakhapatnam gave such an impression.
Anil Kumar certainly made some serious comments against his brother-in-law and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, alleging that the latter had betrayed the faith of Christians, OBCs, SCs and STs, who had strongly supported the YSR Congress party in the 2019 elections.
He only said it was not so easy to launch and run a political party, but assured that he would take a call at an appropriate time.
This has evoked sharp reaction, obviously from other Christian groups owing allegiance to the YSR Congress party. Several Christian leaders are finding fault with Anil Kumar for contemplating launching a political party.
“You claim to be the servant of God. When did you transform from an evangelist to a politician? What made you to make comments on the launch of a new political party in AP?” they asked.
Stating that Andhra Pradesh was not Anil’s property, the Christian groups accused him of playing politics in the guise of evangelism.
“Do you think the entire Christian community will run after you? Give up evangelism and get into politics directly, instead of using religion for your political gains,” they said.
Ridiculing Anil Kumar’s plans of floating a political party, these groups pointed out that his wife Sharmila had made a futile attempt in Telangana and had become a butt of ridicule.
“Now, is there any need for you to meet the same fate in Andhra Pradesh, too?” they asked.
The Christian groups said if Anil Kumar has any love towards the community, he should extend a helping hands to them.
“All these days, you were sitting idle and now, you want to fight for the rights of Christians. Who will believe you?” they asked.
