Andhra: Squabbles Take NRI Hospital To Cops

The internal squabbles in the NRI Hospital management came to the fore in the midst of speculation that the hospital is ready for sale.

Management committee member Dr Kondragunta Butchaiah had filed a case against academy vice-president Dr Upendranath Nimmagadda, treasurer, Dr Mani Akkineni, and employees Uppalapu Srinivasa Rao and Vallurupalli Nalini Mohan alleging that they siphoned off huge amounts of society’s funds.

The allegation was that these members have floated NRI Academy of Sciences Private Limited (NRIAS Pvt Ltd) and registered it as company on March 12, 2020.

Dr Mani Akkineni, being treasurer of the NRI Academy of Sciences had started this company to divert the funds of the academy to their company, Dr Butchaiah alleged.

He further alleged that these people have made AP Medical Services and Infrastructure Development Corporation to deposit Rs 2.25 crore into the bank account of the company on March 23, 2020 instead of the academy’s account.

He also stated that these people have diverted Rs 3,03,36,210 from the bank account of the academy to their private company on January 12, 2021.

Prior to this, they also transferred Rs 1.50 crore on December 28, 2020 and Rs 1,53,36,210 on December 29, 2020 from the bank account of the academy.

He said these people have also transferred Rs 8.61 crore from the bank account of the academy to various companies which have tie-up with their private company.

Besides, Rs 6,43,92,707 were withdrawan from the academy’s account in three spells from 2019 to 2020, he alleged in his complaint.

The Magalagiri police have registered a case based on the complaint.

It is to be mentioned here that a rumour is doing rounds in the state that the hospital and medical college are “sold” to “Megha” Krishna Reddy.
