Andhra Governor hints at three capitals, indirectly

The Andhra Pradesh government reiterated in the state assembly its policy of decentralised administration in the state, thereby indirectly indicating that it still favoured three capital cities for the state.

An indirect reference to the three capitals was made by state Governor Biswabhushan Harichandan, while addressing the joint meeting of the state legislative assembly and legislative council on the commencement of the budget session on Monday.

“This government is committed to the decentralised and inclusive governance and has been making relentless efforts in this direction for the last three years,” the Governor said, amidst protests from the Telugu Desam Party members.

Harichandan said in coherence with the objective of a decentralised and good governance, the government had embarked on restricting of districts.

“My government has decided to restructure the existing 13 districts and form another 13 new districts, which would start functioning from April 2, coinciding with the Ugadi festival,” he said.

The Governor also claimed that the state government was employee-friendly and had taken all measures to do justice for them in pay revision.

“We have released five dearness allowance instalments at one go and implemented the pay revision commission recommendations,” he said.

Without any request from the employees, the state government had increased their retirement age from 60 years to 62 years, so as to make use of the productive services of the employees for more time.

He said the state had achieved a growth of 0.22 per cent in the Gross State Domestic Product in 2020-21. The per capita income went up by 15.87 per cent to Rs 2.04 lakh per annum.

“The government has taken steps to ensure human resources and economic development through implementation of Nava Ratna schemes,” he added.
