Andhra Cabinet scraps Land Titling Act, approves free sand distribution

The Andhra Pradesh cabinet, led by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, abolished the Land Titling Act on Tuesday and approved a government order (GO) offering free sand for construction, among other decisions.

Information and Public Relations Minister K Parthasarathy announced that the cabinet scrapped the Andhra Pradesh Land Titling Act, 2022, which was passed during the previous YSRCP government, due to numerous alleged issues.

Parthasarathy noted that the act had generated widespread suspicion and fear among the public, as highlighted by several newspapers and media outlets. This led to significant pressure from landowners to repeal it.

In addition, the cabinet has abolished the sand policies introduced by the YSRCP government in 2019 and 2021. Instead, they have approved a GO passed on July 8, which offers free sand to people for construction purposes until a proper mechanism is established.

The cabinet also approved a GO from the Civil Supplies Department to secure loans of up to Rs 2,000 crore from banks and other financial institutions for purchasing grains during the fiscal year 2024-25.

Furthermore, Parthasarathy mentioned that the cabinet has endorsed the Agriculture and Cooperation Department's proposal to seek a Rs 3,200 crore loan from the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) for the fiscal year 2024-25. This loan will serve as working capital assistance.
