Anantapur cops book SC/ST case against own SP!

In probably a first of its kind instance, Anantapur police on Wednesday have booked a case against their own Superintendent of Police Dr K Fakkeerappa for dismissing an armed reserve police constable K Prakash on alleged false charges.

The case was booked at the Anantapur two-town police station, based on a complaint given by Prakash.

Similarly, cases were also booked against district additional superintendent of police Hanumanthappa and deputy superintendent of police of central crime station Mahaboob Basha.

The cases were booked against the SP and two others under Section 167, 177 and 182 of the Indian Penal Code, besides SC/ST (prevention of atrocities) Act. Inspector Shivaramudu said an inquiry would be conducted against the SP by a DIG rank office.

Prakash came into limelight recently with his protest near the police martyrs’ stupa on the premises of the district police headquarters stating that the government is not settling the dues to the police department.

He displayed a placard reading “AP CM Jagan Sir.. Save AP Police, Grant SLS, ASLS Arrears.. Social Justice Please.”

On Monday, Fakkerappa issued orders dismissing Prakash from service in connection with a cheating case registered against him in Garladinne of Anantapur district in 2019 based on a complaint made by a woman B Lakshmi. He said there are six criminal cases registered against constable Prakash.

Lakshmi, however, told media on Tuesday that she had not given any complaint against Prakash and the police had forcibly taken her signature to target him.

Prakash, in his complaint with the II Town police, alleged that he, being a Dalit, the police superiors were discriminating against him. Though the case is still pending in the court, the superiors had declared him guilty, he alleged.
