Anam to turn another rebel for Jagan?

It looks like former minister and senior YSR Congress party leader Anam Ramnarayan Reddy, who has been fighting against the hegemony of a few party leaders in Nellore district, is going to turn another rebel for the party.

It was evident from the way Anam, along with his followers, took up a relay hunger strike at Rapur since Thursday, against the alleged unilateral decision of the Jagan Mohan Reddy government on the reorganisation of the district.

Anam, who participated in the “deeksha” for one day on Thurday, protested against the merger of Rapur, Kaluvoya and Sydapuram mandals with the proposed Sri Balaji district separating from Nellore.

Anam said the merging of key areas of Venkatagiri constituency into Sri Balaji district would create problems for the constituency, which he represents in the state assembly.

It seems the administration had not followed directions of chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy properly while reorganising the district, he said.

The former minister alleged that the officials have done the reorganisation under pressure from the local leaders, who were working against him.

“When the officials considered parliament segment as a geographical zone for formation of new district, he asked why they had excluded Sarvepalli?” he asked.

Anam said he would explain sentiments of the constituency to the chief minister.

“I have earlier achieved Kandaleru reservoir taking up relay hunger strike for 11 days. I will not hesitate to do it again,” he said.

Interestingly, there was no support from any of the YSRC leaders to Anam’s demand. The party high command also has not responded to Anam’s hue and cry over the reorganisation issue.

“Jagan is giving him a long rope. If Anam doesn’t mend his ways, he will be shown the door,” sources said.

The senior leader, who defected from the Congress to the TDP in 2014 and from there to YSRC in 2019, was hoping to get a cabinet berth. But his junior ministers like P Anil Kumar Yadav and Mekapati Gautam Reddy have been calling shots in the district, resulting in a sort of disgruntlement in Anam.

Maybe, Anam is also looking for an alternative platform by turning a rebel against the party.
