A day after former YSR Congress party MLA from Dharmavaram Kethireddy Venkatrami Reddy made an open statement that party president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy had committed several blunders that led to the defeat of the party, another senior leader echoed a similar sentiment.
He is Ambati Rambabu, former irrigation minister and YSRCP spokesperson, who has been the most trusted lieutenant of Jagan.
At a party meeting at Kasimkota in Anakapalli parliamentary constituency, Ambati said the party had lost the elections because it had lost the trust of the people.
He admitted that their expectations of YS Jagan Mohan Reddy becoming Chief Minister again were wrong.
"We did not just lose the elections. We suffered a massive defeat, winning only 11 seats,” he said.
Expressing disappointment over the election results, Ambati acknowledged that the party had failed to win people's trust and hence, lost the elections.
“We need to rebuild the people’s confidence, if we have to win the next elections,” he said.
He further questioned, "We don’t understand why we got only 11 seats. But more importantly, does the opposition even understand how they managed to win 164 seats?"
Ambati speculated on various reasons behind the YSRCP's defeat in the hands of the alliance. It could be because the three parties – Telugu Desam Party, Jana Sena Party and the Bharatiya Janata Party had come together or due to any unknown wave of anti-incumbency against YSRCP.
He also wondered whether there was some kind of unseen manipulation in the election results.
“In any case, we all lost the elections because we have failed as a unit,” Ambati said and urged party leaders and workers to set aside internal differences and focus on strengthening the party.
