Amaravati is a big scam, says Jagan

YSR Congress party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy described the construction of capital city at Amaravati as a big scandal aimed at reaping rich benefits to the ruling Telugu Desam Party headed by chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

Answering a volley of questions at the India Today Conclave in New Delhi on Saturday, Jagan said when Naidu had become the chief minister in June 2014, he knew exactly where capital city was coming because he had it his mind. He misled people that the capital city was coming elsewhere.

“On his own heritage company's name and on his benamis, he bought land cheaply from farmers in the exact capital city location. This is equivalent to insider trading and it is a breach of oath of secrecy. You cannot use secrets of state to make your own financial gains,” Jagan said.

The YSRC president pointed out that Naidu had given a decorative name of land pooling under the guise of land acquisition, but he ensured that most of his land and his benamis are just outside the land that is going to be acquired.

“He went a step ahead and gave the land to anybody of his choice at whatever rates he wanted,” he alleged.

On the personal corruption of the TDP president, Jagan said it was pretty clear that Naidu was caught on audio/video tapes in the note for vote case in Telangana and forensic reports confirmed that it was his voice.

“And yet he has gone scot-free and no cases have been booked against him,” he said.

On his Praja Sankalpa Yatra, Jagan said it had given people a sense of hope that there’s someone who will come to them, listening to their issues, and do something about addressing them.

“Their hope is driving me to do things for them. I have a dream to stay alive in people’s memory long after my death, for that I need to do a lot of good for the people,” he said.

Stating that Naidu’s credibility had hit rock bottom, Jagan said in 2014, Naidu was aware that farm loans worth Rs 87,612 crore couldn't be waived.

“Yet he made a false promise asking them not to repay their loans, putting them in a difficult situation later,” he said.

“We have announced certain schemes for all sections of the society through Navaratnalu, and we will be establishing Gram Secretariats which will deal with disbursement of schemes and solve problems in real time,” he said.
