Amaravati Farmers Seek Stay On 3-Capitals Order

Amaravati Farmers Seek Stay On 3-Capitals Order

As expected, the farmers of Amaravati have begun their legal battle against the formation of three capital cities for Andhra Pradesh, doing away with Amaravati as the state capital.

Rajadhani Rythu Parirakshana Samithi on Monday moved a petition in the state high court seeking a stay on the implementation of the gazette notification issued by the Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government on formation of three capitals.

The petitioners challenged the government orders of administrative decentralisation and abolition of capital region development authority. They pleaded that the recommendations of the G N Rao committee and the high-power committee be declared illegal.

The Rajadhani Rythu Parirakshana Samithi sought the intervention of the high court in stalling the shifting of Raj Bhavan, Chief Minister’s Office and state secretariat from Amaravati to Visakhapatnam. The petition is expected to come up for hearing on Tuesday.

Within hours of Governor Biswabhushan Harichandan giving his assent to the two bills – one on formation three capital cities for AP and another on abolition of APCRDA, the state government issued gazette notifications on Friday night.

On Saturday, the government issued orders abolishing the APCRDA and forming Amaravati Metropolitan Development Authority in place of APCRDA and transferring all its assets, liabilities, agreements and concessions to the new authority.

So, the AMDA will have to face all the legal battles with the farmers as there is no CRDA now. It remains to be seen who would have the last laugh.
