With newly-formed the Telugu Desam Party-led NDA government in Andhra Pradesh headed by chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu declaring to develop Amaravati as the only capital city of the state, the AP Capital Region Development Authority quickly revived the abandoned works in the capital region.
As part of the restoration of the capital city, APCRDA commissioner Katamaneni Bhaskar on Saturday issued a gazette notification, notifying the area where the government’s official buildings complex will come up.
As per the original masterplan, the government office buildings, including state secretariat, state legislature and various department building complex in about 1,575 acres covering Rayapudi, Nelapadu, Lingayapalem, Sakhamuru and Kondamarajupalem villages.
The gazette notification was issued through a public notice under Section-39 of APCRDA Act, taking into consideration zoning regulations under the Amaravati master plan, the commissioner said.
Most of buildings, for which foundation stones were laid more than five years ago, have been abandoned midway soon after Jagan came to power in 2019.
The foundation stones were submerged in water, while thick bushes and trees have come up all over the place, making it look like a mini forest.
Soon after Naidu returned to power early this month, the APCRDA authorities began clearing these dense bushes and are trying to give the area a new look.
“The area is now witnessing hectic activity again and we hope the capital city will regain its lost glory,” a local farmer said.
