Amaravati Buildings Up For Sale!

Amaravati Buildings Up For Sale!

It looks like the Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government has decided to put up the existing buildings and residential apartment complexes in Amaravati for sale to mobilise funds for its welfare programmes.

Hundreds of residential apartments, apartment blocks, villas and other structures have been abandoned soon after Jagan came to power in May 2019.

Some of them were almost nearing completion, others are in various stages of construction – ranging from 40 per cent to 70 per cent.

The buildings include sophisticated apartments for All India Service Officers and MLAs and MLCs, besides Secretariat employees and other government employees, besides apartments for weaker sections.

The villas for judges and independent houses for high court officers were also left abandoned midway.

Now that the Jagan government has decided to move the administrative capital to Visakhapatnam, it is now in a dilemma as to what to do with these buildings.

Since Amaravati remains the legislative capital, some of the apartment complexes could be allotted to the legislature employees, besides MLAs and MLC quarters.

All the remaining buildings could be put up for sale, so that it could generate huge money for funding the welfare schemes of the government, officials indicated to the chief minister.

On Thursday, Jagan government issued an order constituting a nine-member committee headed by chief secretary Adityanath Das to examine the buildings and housing units in Amaravati which are essentially required for the legislative capital.

The committee has also been asked to suggest future course of action regarding other unfinished Apartment units and bungalows.

It was asked to see whether to fully execute the buildings or to explore means for reducing burden on exchequer.

The officials of the Amaravati Metropolitan Region Development Authority asked the chief minister to take a decision as to what should be done with regard to Secretariat and HoD towers and permanent high court buildings.

“In all probability, the government will entrust the project to Mission AP Build to dispose of the properties and get money to fund the welfare schemes,” sources said.
