After Posani, Andhra cops target ex-MP Madhav

A day after arresting popular Tollywood comedian and writer Posani Krishna Murali in connection with the abusive comments against top Telugu Desam Party leaders, the Andhra Pradesh police have targeted YSR Congress party leader and former Hindupur MP Gorantla Madhav.

On Thursday, Vijayawada cybercrime police went to the residence of Madhav in Anantapur district and served him a notice under Section 35/3 of the BNS, asking him to appear before the Cybercrime police headquarters on March 5.

The serving of notice to the former MP comes nearly three months after a complaint lodged by former Andhra Pradesh Mahila Commission chairperson Vasireddy Padma, alleging that Madhav had revealed the names of rape victims.

In her complaint to the cybercrime police on November 2, 2024, Padma alleged that Madhav had disclosed the names of multiple rape victims, including minors.

She also named a vernacular Telugu news channel, which posted his press conference on YouTube.

Padma, who had resigned from the YSRCP after the assembly election results in June last year, met NTR District Commissioner of Police SV Rajashekhar Babu at his office to lodge the complaint.

She said Madhav divulged the names of six victims of rape, including two minors while speaking on a news channel.

She pointed out that the video posted on YouTube has garnered over 12,000 views in the last 11 days. Following the complaint, the video was deleted.

She said it was a serious offence wherein the identities of multiple victims of rape (including minors) have been compromised.

“The amount of torture and mental harassment these poor women endure on account of such irresponsible statements is just unfathomable.
