Telugu Desam Party president and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu reacted cautiously on Friday to the controversy surrounding allegations of bribery involving the Adani Group and the previous Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy regime.
Without directly naming Adani or Jagan, Naidu addressed the state assembly, stating that his government would review the situation and take appropriate action after gathering all necessary information.
When several MLAs raised concerns about the alleged Adani-Jagan power purchase deal and demanded a comprehensive investigation, Naidu offered a brief response and redirected the discussion to the scheduled agenda, saying, “Let us go into the regular agenda.”
In a concise statement, Naidu acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations, emphasizing the damage caused to Andhra Pradesh’s reputation.
He assured the assembly that his government would take necessary steps as more facts emerge.
"The chargesheet filed by the U.S. agencies is in the public domain. I have reviewed it as well. More details are likely to surface. The government will assess the situation, determine the necessary course of action, and take appropriate measures," Naidu said.
He underscored the government’s responsibility to the public, stating, "If wrongdoing has occurred, action must be taken. This is the only way to prevent such mistakes from happening again."
Expressing concern about the reputational damage to the state, Naidu said, "The issue that has come to light has severely harmed Andhra Pradesh’s image. This deeply saddens me."
While Naidu refrained from announcing specific measures, he assured the assembly and the public that the government would deliberate on the matter and communicate its decisions transparently.
"We will discuss the steps we need to take and inform everyone accordingly," he concluded.
