As the NDA Alliance came to power, with TDP and Jana Sena playing key roles, there is widespread anticipation—across all levels—of suspensions and strict actions against police officers. Many individuals, based on their personal experiences, seem eager for retribution.
Recently, IPS officers, including former intelligence chief P.S.R. Anjaneyulu, former Vijayawada Police Commissioner Kanti Rana Tata, and former Vijayawada Deputy Commissioner Vishal Gunni, were suspended in connection with the Kadambari Jethwani case.
TV5, which had been a strong supporter of the victim, expressed satisfaction with these actions, as the channel had kept the issue in the public eye to ensure justice. Some TDP members are also pleased with these developments.
Meanwhile, Eenadu reported that actions are being considered against IG Ramakrishna, who led the investigation into the Margadarsi Group case.
Raghu Ramakrishna Raju is now demanding action against the officers who he claims harassed him during the sedition case. He has expressed frustration, stating that, as a lawmaker, it is embarrassing to have to ask for justice, but he seeks the same treatment as seen in the Kadambari Jethwani case.
His target officers include former intelligence chief P S R Anjaneyulu, former CB-CID chief P V Sunil Kumar, and CB-CID Additional SP R Vijaya Paul. With Anjaneyulu already suspended, Raju is now pushing for strict action against the remaining two.
The demands don’t end there. Many TDP-affiliated journalists, local leaders, and ward-level party members are also calling for suspensions and strict action against various officers, from SIs to SPs.
The pressing question remains: how can the police function under such conditions?
Police officers are public servants, but the public elects their representatives. Serving the elected representative is, in essence, serving the public.
Targeting police officers with every change in government, regardless of party, reflects a misunderstanding of governance and undermines the rule of law.
