Retired IPS officer and former Andhra Pradesh intelligence chief A B Venkateshwara Rao, who faced suspension, intimidation and cases during the YSR Congress party government headed by Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy between 2020 and 2024, finally got “full justice” in the present Chandrababu Naidu government.
On Tuesday, the state government regularized the suspension period of Venkateswara Rao and declared that this period would be treated as “on duty.”
It also clarified that Venkateshwara Rao is entitled to receive full salary and allowances for the suspension period, as per the norms.
Previously, the Jagan government had imposed suspension on him twice — first from February 2020 to February 7, 2022, and later from June 28, 2022, to May 30, 2024.
Though Venkateshwara Rao was forced to sit at home, he will now get full salary for this period.
Additionally, the government instructed the payment of any outstanding amounts he would have received had he not been suspended.
In December 2024, the Naidu government withdrew all the charges framed against Venkateshwara Rao and all the disciplinary proceedings initiated against him during the YSRC regime.
After the registration of cases against Venkateshwara Rao and subsequent departmental action initiated against him, the government on March 13, 2024, urged the Centre to initiate action against him.
However, the Naidu government said while the imposition of penalty as advised by the UPSC is pending to be implemented, ABV attained the age of superannuation on May 31, 2024.
“The Law Department, quoting the Supreme Court verdicts, has informed that the UPSC recommendations are no longer feasible to apply on retired IPS officers, and these measures become ineffective,” the orders said.
The State government also withdrew two charge memos issued to ABV last month, giving a major relief to him from appearing before the Commission of Inquiries further.
