Both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana governments have been claiming that the number of Coronavirus cases has been on the decline and that they would be able to come out of the crisis very soon.
With the number of positive cases for Covid-19 going up with every passing day, both the Telugu states appear to be gearing up for a bigger disaster in the coming days, in case there is a largescale explosion of Coronavirus pandemic.
Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao’s announcement on Monday that he had suggested to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to extend lockdown period for another 10-15 days to combat the Covid-19 in the country landed his Andhra Pradesh counterpart Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy in an embarrassing situation.
Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was at his ferocious best when he criticised a section of the media for spreading false news against the government in the crisis hours of corona.
Ever since he lost power to YSR Congress party in May 2019, Telugu Desam Party president and former Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has been desperately trying to get closer to the Bharatiya Janata Party in general and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in particular.
There has been big hue and cry among a set of people on the topic why Narendra Modi didn't dial Chandrababu Naidu to talk on the present crisis, when he called and discussed with all the main opposition leaders in the nation.
For the last three days, there has been a steep increase in the number of positive cases for Coronavirus in both the Telugu states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
While Telangana has reported as many as 11 deaths till date, Andhra Pradesh also recorded its first death on Friday. The number of positive cases went up sharply in the last two days.
In Andhra Pradesh, the number went up from 44 on April 1 to 180 on April 4 morning, while Telangana recorded a jump of cases from 82 on April 1 morning to 229 by April 3 night. As per the latest bulletin in AP, as many as 16 cases were reported since Friday night.
The steep increase in the number of cases in the Telugu states is believed to be due to Tablighi Jamaat event held in New Delhi in the second week of March, from where the participants spread to all parts of the country.
Out of the total of 161 positive cases were reported in the state till Friday morning, 140 cases were related to the Tablghi Jamaat incident. A total of 1085 people from AP attended the Tablighi Jamaat event, of which 946 were identified and their samples were collected for testing. Out of 881 samples tested, 108 samples detected positive.
About 626 members who came in contact with the Delhi meeting returnees were also tested and 32 among them were detected positive.
Now that the Telangana and AP governments have claimed that they had identified and quarantined all those who have returned from Tablighi Jamaat meeting and their contacts, one would expect that whatever cases that would be reported now would only be of those people.
So, in the next couple of days, both the states are expected to report a sharp rise in the number of Coronavirus positive cases. After that, they might witness a gradual decline in the number of positive cases and they might witness a stable figure from next week.
Of course, this estimation is subject to the condition that there was no community transmission from Jamaat members to others. If the number of cases continue to rise even after next week, it does mean, the Coronavirus entered the third stage and it’s danger time for the Telugu states!
Like any other field, media, too, is undergoing through the most critical period, thanks to Coronavirus effect.
Pro TDP media has taken an anti Modi stand and continuously making fun of whatever he is announcing.
The Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government in Andhra Pradesh and K Chandrasekhar Rao government in Telangana are said to be under tremendous pressure to withdraw their respective government orders imposing a cut in the salaries of their employees.
There is a talk that some people from the industry have submitted a report to CM Jagan Mohan Reddy on the politics and other affairs that are going on in Tollywood.
The print media in India seems to be the worst victim of the corona virus these days. The industry, which is already hit by the digital media is now almost on ventilator these days.
YSR Congress party president and Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy’s plan of getting the state legislative council abolished under any circumstances is not working out at least for now, thanks to the abrupt adjournment of the Lok Sabha on Monday.
Everything surrounding the letter by the State Election Commissioner seems to be suspicious and michievous.
Sources said Congressmen are deeply envious of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s horoscope.
