Dasaradh has delivered blockbusters like 'Santosham' and 'Mr.Perfect' but he has no consistent track record of successes. After a long gap he has teamed up with Manchu Manoj. “Shourya” has created good buzz due to the new look Manoj has sported in this film and the trailer looked something fresh.
Has Dasaradh really come up with a good movie again? Let’s see…
Story:
Shourya (Manchu Manoj), returns from Harvard University, goes to a village to attend a friend’s marriage. He meets Netra (Regina), who happens to be the daughter of a MP and the friend of the bride. She is impressed by the way he is helping everyone and develops friendship with him. Soon it becomes love. But after some time, he runs away with the bride and she is shocked.
After few days later, she comes to know the truth why he ran away with the bride and is impressed again and starts loving him. Few days later, they go to a temple to spend Shivarathri night in the premises of the temple. In the middle of the night, it is found Netra struggling for life as her throat is slit.
This incident leads to many turns, twists and interpretations.
Artistes’ Performances:
Manchu Manoj has gone for complete makeover for this movie by putting on weight, and looking little softer. Manoj’s acting is one plus point of the movie. But it is not clear why he has put on weight for this role? The character doesn’t demand any such thing. He hasn’t done a single fight too.
Regina has become monotonous in her expressions and dressing style. There isn’t much to talk about her.
The ever dependable Prakash Raju has given his best show in the climactic sequences. Nagineedu and Benarjee also impress. Comedy by Brahmanandam and other comedians don’t add much to the movie.
Technical Excellence:
The film looks like it is made on a low budget. The production values are not impressive. Technically too the movie is very weak. Music is totally bad. Cinematography is average. So is the editing. Screenplay writing is awfully boring.
Highlights:
- Last 15 minutes
Drawbacks:
- Too Slow
- Bad comedy
- Dull music
- Lengthy runtime
- Boring scenes
Analysis:
Basic story of “Shourya” revolves around a theory that each incident has three stories – one that is imagined by people, the version narrated by the doer and finally the actual incident. Prakash Raj tells this in the beginning of the story. He also mentions it at the end in an elaborate way. Although this sounds too exciting, the actual experience is anything but interesting.
When Regina’s throat is slit and what happens next just before the interval really gives a jolt to the audience. Similarly, when Prakash Raj confronts with Manoj just before climax, the sequences unfolding also are very interesting to see.
It seems that director Dasaradh and his writers’ team have written these two episodes first and then tried to build up screenplay around this. While those two mentioned episodes are good, rest of the movie is quite boring as not a single scene is worth taking about.
From the beginning, the scenes move slower than a goods-train. Lot of the time is spent on silly aspects like Manoj’s helpful nature. No chemistry is visible between Regina and Manoj and their love thread is so outdated.
Entire first half tests our patience as the movie drives with pointless sequences. The comedy shot on Prabhas Seenu is hilarious in some scenes but it doesn’t add up in real way in totality.
The director has succeeded is in the climax portions. Apart from that, director Dasaradh who has given some hits in the past has completely failed in his direction. All in all, a botched up movie from director Dasaradh and Manoj.
Bottom-line: Never Thrills
