After delivering a series of hits, audiences now look forward to Hebbah Patel’s movies. “Ekkadiki Pothavu Chinnavada” was a good hit despite demonetization. Hence, the release of “Nanna Nenu Naa Boyfriends” has created a good buzz.
Let's find out whether Hebbah has given another good film or not.
Story:
Paddu (Hebbah) has a doting father who will not do anything against her wishes. She lands in Hyderabad for a job from her village and stays with her friend Maggy (Tejaswi). In Hyderabad, she selects three boys from Facebook and decides to make them fall in love with her.
The guys – a sports guy Gokul (Noel), a guy training for police job Nani (Ashwin) and a poojari Namo (Parvatheesam). Hoping to select one of them after few tests, she moves close to with them for days. Twist in the tale, all love her sincerely and now finds it tough to select one. What happens next?
Artistes’ Performances:
Hebbah Patel as the lead actress gets more footage but there isn’t much to talk about her acting. She just fits the role. Rao Ramesh as her doting father is at his usual best.
The three male leads Noel, Parvateesam and Ashwini are okay. Among other cast members Tejaswi has got big role but she doesn't impress.
Technical Excellence:
The film has decent technical and production values. Cinematography by top cameraman Chota K Naidu stands out. Music by Sekhar Chandra is not at all impressive except “Oka Laila Mugguru Devadasulu.”. Dialogues by Prasanna Kumar are routine.
Highlights:
Rao Ramesh
Drawbacks:
No scene stands out
Forced climax
Lead actors
Analysis:
With a bold title “Nanna Nenu Naa Boyfriends”, the movie certainly created some expectations. We have seen many films where hero romances three or four girls before settling down with a rather different girl. But for the first time on Telugu screen, a heroine is shown doing this. Daring thought indeed! But beyond this point, there is nothing daringly different in the movie, no freshness in any scene.
The story is told with outdated scenes and some Jabardasth kind of sequences. While the beginning portions are trademark masala movies like the producer’s earlier movie “Cinema Choopista Maava”, the sentiment thread between Rao Ramesh and Hebbah Patel are similar to Dil Raju’s movies. This mix of genres has not blended properly.
The movie begins with a scene of Hebbah Patel sitting on the wedding stage, while her father is waiting for some person at the railway station. Then, Rao Ramesh reveals what happened a few months ago. It then focuses on the bonding between him and his daughter and how his daughter is sent to Hyderabad despite her not clearing engineering exams. This is set up well. The farcical situations begin once she starts interacting with the three guys in the name of selecting one life partner.
Not a single episode among the three love interactions is interesting. It is silly to see that she herself hires a gang to pretend that they are going to rape her so that the guy who is training to be police officer would come and rescue her. This is one sample scene how she tries to make the three guys fall in love with her. Entire first half has moved on this way and is slow and boring.
As there is no suspense element in the screenplay, every scene is predictable. The writer and director have not even made any attempt to write the scenes differently. It is clear in the very beginning of the story that she won’t settle with any of this trio but the reason she gives out in the end is not at all convincing though it is the better part of the movie.
While the point is somewhat different for a heroine doing such thing, the narration, the taking, the scenes... all feel very old. This is the problem. Moreover, the slow moving of the screenplay further makes the movie an uncomfortable watch.
Overall, “Nanna Nenu Naa Boyfriends” hasn't much to offer in terms of entertainment, or emotional impact, it is below average fare. It takes patience to sit through it.
Bottom-line: What The BF!
