Sunil after scoring two back to back hits as a hero is now coming with yet another treat. This time he has chosen a Bollywood remake. Whether it is good or not let us see
Story:
Buchi Babu (Sunil) comes to India from US with the idea of getting married and he wants a conventional girl. One such alliance is that of Anjali (Isha Chawla) and Buchi Babu falls for her instantly.
But Anjali is more a tomboy and a spontaneous girl whose decisions are immediate. She is not interesting in marrying Buchi Babu and calls off the alliance. But a friend’s marriage in Kerala brings Buchi Babu and Anjali at the same place.
What happens after that forms the rest of the story.
Performances:
Sunil has shown a good deal of commitment and hardwork in his appearance and performance. He should watch out for his hairstyle, it looks odd. Role-wise, he carried it with effectiveness.
Isha Chawla is cute and has a sultry sex appeal which is hard to miss. She has shown good confidence though she doesn’t really fit into a tomboy kind of role.
Vincent has good physique and looks but his dubbed voice didn’t suit. Ali brought few smiles. Dharmavarapu and Tulasi were decent. Ahuti Prasad was usual. M S Narayana was not used properly. Same with Ravi Babu. Others did their bit as required.
Highlights:
- Nothing noteworthy
Drawbacks:
- Weak direction
- Poor music and songs
- No energy in screenplay
- Amateur comedy
Analysis
The film happens to be the remake of the Bollywood hit ‘Tanu Weds Manu’ and to those who have seen the original this by no means will be appealing. The key reason for that was the adaptation which was not done in the right spirit.
As a director, it is important to realize that comparisons are bound to happen and the new version has to come up with equally good energy and pace. Of course, he has changed the second half to a little extent but it was not sufficient to give that right nativity. The dialogues were witty to an extent but the comedy was not that matured.
Cinematography was upto the mark. The film takes off in a mild way and there are few good scenes in between. But developing the plot and building the momentum was missing.
The interval bang was good enough but the second half got a little dull and looked somewhat stale. The lack of branded names in significant roles is another setback.
The film suffered heavily due to the outdated music. Sunil’s presence is strong in the B, C center and it may get an initial response in a strong way.
But it would take strong post release publicity if the makers are planning to score a hit out of it.
Bottomline: Not worth if you have watched the original or even otherwise
