The song “Ra Raa Reddy” went viral and brought a lot of hype around “Macherla Niyojakavargam”. Nithiin’s attempt to enter the mass zone has created enough curiosity. The controversy around the film’s director’s tweets is another reason for the focus on the film.

Let’s find out its merits and demerits.

Story:
Awaiting the posting, the UPSC topper Siddharth Reddy aka Siddhu (Nithiin) spends jolly time in Vizag and falls for Swathi (Krithi Shetty), the sister-in-law of his neighbour Guntalakadi Gurnatham (Vennela Kishore). A few days later, Swathi goes to her hometown Macharla without informing him.

In search of her, he reaches Macharla only to find that the constituency is in the grip of rowdy leader Rajappa (Samuthirakani).

Just as Siddharth lands in the town, he gets confirmation that he is posted as the collector of the Guntur district. The rest of the drama is collector Siddhu vs Rajappa.

Artistes’ Performances:
Nithiin tries the lover boy role in the first half and shows off action image in the later part. It is a typical mass hero role. He does his part neatly by sporting a mature and rough look with moustache and all Samuthirakani in dual role adds nothing much.

Krithi Shetty gets some importance in the story.

Vennela Kishore gets more runtime than the two heroines put together. His comedy works in parts though it is clichéd and routine.

Technical Excellence:
The film has two hummable songs. The “Reddy Reddy” song is catchy with amass beats. The romantic duet “Adirendey” is colorful on screen.

The cinematography and other technical departments have put in standard output.

Highlights:
Nithiin
Anjali’s special song

Drawback:
Outdated story
Cliched and boring narration
Predictable to the core

Analysis
For many years, Telugu mass movies and action dramas followed a standard screenplay – a jolly hero, a couple of romantic scenes and songs, a heroine hiding her past, a hero learning her true story and vowing to save her, an interval bang, an item song and a prolonged clash between hero and villain. Such stories worked for many years a decade ago. But the new generation of audiences started hating the clichéd lines.

The careers of directors like Vinayak, Santosh Srinivas, and others ended for this reason. The editor turned director MS Rajasekhar Reddy aka SR Shekkar must have written this story a decade ago. He got the opportunity now and dished out the outdated story in the most formulaic way possible.

“Macherla Niyojakavargam” ticked all boxes that we mentioned above. There is no iota of new thing in the film. With no major twists and turns, the predictable thin story doesn’t give enough content to stretch it to the standard runtime of 2 hours plus. Hence, he depends on Vennela Kishore.

In the first half of the film, Vennela Kishore’s comedy is close to 30 minutes. While the comedy is cringeworthy, the comedian with all his experience and talent provides some laughs here and there. But we must understand that the director has no “matter” to hold the attention of the viewer in the first half, so he completely relied on Vennela Kishore.

The so-called interval bang of Nithiin becoming a collector doesn’t make any impact, as we have already known this aspect in the trailer itself. It is neither a bang nor a twist.

The narration is completely regular with the sole aim to entice the mass audiences. But even regular mass audiences will not like such dull narration. Nithiin’s energy and acting, and Anjali’s item song are the best part of the second half.

All in all, “Macherla Niyojakavargam” is a routine and boring commercial drama.

Bottom Line: Outdated
