"Committee Kurrullo" garnered attention, despite featuring newbies in the lead roles, due to its production by Niharika Konidela and her effective promotional efforts.
Let us ascertain its advantages and disadvantages.
Story:
The story is set in a village in the Godavari region. Siva reminisces about his youth. He recounts to his little daughter the splendor of his own childhood, highlighting the joyous experiences shared with their friends. Siva is currently awaiting the return of his friends, who have established themselves in various locations and secured employment.
The group of friends last convened during the Jathara event 12 years ago, and the death of one of their friends fractured their friendship. It is time for another Jathara.
Will these buddies relinquish their past problems and reunite? Will they help Siva secure Sarpanch's position in their village?
Artistes’ Performances:
The casting is perfect. Except for a few prominent actors like Goparaju Ramana, Sreelakshmi, and Saikumar, the entire cast consists of newcomers.
Among these new actors, those who played the roles of Subbu, Siva, and William stand out.
The other actors have also done a terrific job.
Technical Excellence:
The technical and production aspects of the film are superb, especially considering that it features actors that are new to the industry.
The producers spent adequate money to ensure that the Jathara episodes had a genuine and grand appearance. The screen clearly displays the money spent.
The cinematography is excellent. The cameraman not only captured the picturesque grandeur of the Godavari region but also filmed other sequences in a visually appealing manner.
The music enhances and harmonizes with the theme. The editing in the latter half, as well as the screenplay writing in certain areas, should have been more precise.
Highlights:
Casting and performances
Pre-Interval episodes
Sincere effort
Drawback:
Lack of grip in the second half
Climax portions
Analysis
The basic premise is interesting. Like many of the previous films that dealt with buddy relationships, nostalgia, village problems, and teenage romances, “Committee Kurrollu” treaded the same path, sprinkling some humor in the beginning, captivating in the middle portion, and turning into a boring sentimental fare in the end.
"Committee Kurrollu," directed by Yadhu Vamsi, tells the story of a group of friends and how a minor argument over caste and community differences escalates into a major issue, leading to their separation and eventual reunion.
Yadhu Vamsi invigorates the straightforward narrative by incorporating a local jathara episode, akin to "Kantara," and infusing it with a "Happy Days"-style bond of friendship and romance.
While the beginning portions of the film, which revolve around a nostalgic romance and friendship, appear simple and ordinary, the director manages to make it interesting afterwards.
When one of their friends was unable to gain admission to Government Engineering College due to the reservation system, they suddenly became aware of their castes, leading to a series of events that culminated in a big problem. The director has convincingly portrayed this portion.
But the problem lies in the ineffectiveness of the resolution. Although there are occasional poignant moments in the second half, overall it is predominantly foreseeable. Furthermore, the narrative transitions from depicting a friendship to exploring political themes, culminating in a disheartening ending. The latter portion undeniably exhibits numerous issues.
The last hour's narration disrupted the momentum.
The film's strengths lie in the casting and performances of the newcomers, as well as the middle sections. The drawback is the final hour and the monotonous narration after the intermission.
Overall, "Committee Kurrollu" has both strong and weak segments. Had the second half been more entertaining and less filled with forced sentiment and heavy drama, it might have fared better with the target audience. But as of now it is for sentimental hearts those relish nostalgia and reunions of friends.
Bottom line: 'Sentiment' Kurrollu
