A film’s success irrespective of the genre will result in many more films on the same lines. In the past couple of years, film-makers realized that the audiences loved horror comedies. Ever since films like Kanchana, Prema Katha Chitram, Geetanjali made it big at the box office, the industry is trying to cash in on the trend. Buchamma Buchodu is a horror comedy that was meant to make the audience laugh by scaring them. Let’s see how the film shaped up…
Story:
Young couple Karthik (Sivaji) and Sravani (Kainaz) go to their new farm house to spend some time. A happy couple, they suddenly end up fighting with each other one night. Though they don’t understand why they started fighting, they realize that it has to do something with the farm house. Just like Karthik anticipates, some supernatural elements take control of their lives and try to play with them. Things go to the extent where Karthik and Sravani decide to kill each other on a particular date.
Artistes’ Performances:
Sivaji tries his best to make the audience laugh with his antics, but the film does provide scope for him to perform. But he tries to put in his best in the limited scope that the film offers. Kainaz Motiwala, better known for her controversial film Ragini MMS, gets to repeat what she did in the film. In fact, one almost feels that her wardrobe has also been borrowed from Ragini MMS too.
Since it is a horror comedy, the director uses Jabardasth batch to tickle the audience. But he fails to use Brahmanandam effectively, so the little said the better about other comedians.
Technical Expertise:
The dialogues are a huge drawback for the film. Since it is a horror comedy, dialogues would have made a huge difference to the film. But the dialogues are proof that the dialogue writer has no sense of humour whatsoever. In fact, he fails to script interesting dialogues even for a senior and seasoned comedian like Brahmanandam.
Like most horror films, the film is set in one location and that cuts short the work of the art director drastically. The cinematographer does a good job given the limited resources he had.
On the other hand, the editor would have struggled to link various scenes in the first half as the screenplay is jumpy.
Background is decent. But the director’s inexperience is quite obvious. Honestly, the story does have the potential to become a watchable and enjoyable horror film. It has good quantities of horror and comic elements. However, director Revan Yaadu wastes the opportunity by failing to give the audience a spooky experience or comic relief.

Analysis:
Imagine having to watch a film which shows ghosts raping men. And not stopping there, the director tries to pull off the film with cheap comedy scenes related to the scene.
Well, the film banks heavily on such comedy scenes especially in the second half. Since the director seems to have decided to reveal the actual plot by interval time, he makes a patchwork of various scenes in the first half. Due to this, almost all scenes are randomly stringed and you fail to understand why you are watching the film.
By interval time, you understand the story and hope that the second half would be more interesting. Instead, the director makes a mish-mash by roping in various comedians to do inane scenes in the name of comedy.
In fact, the scenes between Karthik and Sravani are funnier than the ones involving comedians. The scenes where the lead pair try to outdo ghosts and how their ideas boomerang, keep you interested for some time. While there might be one section of the audience who do not mind watching ‘below the belt’ jokes, getting ghosts to rape men in the name of comedy really puts you off.
But the real highlight is surely the climax scene. The hero actually gives a message to the ghosts and they are shown to feel ashamed and this scene totally takes the cake in showing the director’s lack of expertise in making the most of a good concept. Though Sivaji tries his best to salvage the film, it goes beyond his capacity to bail out this badly made film. In all, the film might interest people who enjoy cheap jokes.
