NTR is currently touring Japan as part of the promotions for Devara. Once he returns from Tokyo, he is expected to begin work on Dragon, directed by Prashanth Neel.
Well ahead of any Sankranthi 2026 plans, NTR and Neel had already locked in January 9, 2026, as the official release date for the film, and production is progressing accordingly.
However, a sudden announcement from Tamil superstar Thalapathy Vijay may shake things up.
Vijay’s final film, Jana Nayagan, directed by H. Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions, is also slated for a worldwide release on January 9, 2026, coinciding with the Pongal festival.
This marks Vijay’s last outing on the big screen before he transitions fully into politics. His party is expected to make a major entry into the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
Given that Jana Nayagan is his farewell film, the hype surrounding it is expected to be massive. This poses a challenge for Dragon, particularly in Tamil Nadu and Kerala, where Vijay commands a strong box office presence.
With this unexpected development, there’s already speculation that NTR might reconsider the release date of Dragon to avoid a direct clash with Vijay’s highly anticipated final film.
