It has been nearly 12 days since Tollywood megastar Chiranjeevi flew all the way from Hyderabad to Vijayawada along with his wife Surekha in a special chartered flight to meet YSR Congress party president and chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy at the latter’s Tadepalli residence.
The Chiranjeevi couple was accorded a warm welcome and hosted sumptuous lunch by Jagan and his wife Bharati.
The megastar felicitated Jagan for recording a huge victory in the recent assembly elections in Andhra Pradesh. The chief minister, too, honoured Chiranjeevi with a memento.
So far so good. The main purpose of Chiranjeevi’s visit was to invite Jagan to watch his latest movie “Sye Raa,” which received rave reviews for his outstanding performance. Jagan agreed for the same.
But till date, the Andhra Pradesh chief minister did not find time to watch the film because of his busy schedules. In fact, by the time Chiranjeevi met Jagan in Vijayawada, Sye Raa was already two weeks old – it was released on October.
Now, another two weeks have passed by and the film is almost out of many theatres.
Had the chief minister watched the movie, it would have fetched additional publicity to the film, which is required in the initial days of its release. But it is almost a month now and the film obviously doesn’t need any such publicity.
But had Jagan seen the movie, it would have given personal satisfaction to Chiranjeevi. Otherwise, there was no need for him to go to Vijayawada in a special flight to request Jagan to watch the movie.
In any case, Chiranjeevi’s visit was not just to request Jagan to watch the film. It was a goodwill gesture on the part of the megastar to maintain his relations with the Andhra chief minister, which is very much essential for the film industry.
“Moreover, the megastar also requested the chief minister to revive the Nandi awards presentation, which was given quite a burial during the Chandrababu Naidu regime,” a source said.
