Why this sudden change in RGV?

Why this sudden change in RGV?

After nearly two decades, wisdom seems to have dawned upon maverick film maker Ram Gopal Varma, who suddenly admitted to have made meaningless films carelessly just for shock value or a gimmick effect all these days.

He made a confession to this effect on his social media platform, apparently watching his own film Satya after 27 years.

He said it was a wakeup call for him, as he was carried away in self-indulgence due to his own state of mind without measuring it against the standards set by himself.

He declared that he has taken a vow that whatever little of his life is left, he wants to spend it sincerely and create something as worthy as SATYA.

“Every film I make from now onwards will be made with a reverence towards why I wanted to become a director in the 1st place,” he said.

Nobody would deny the fact that Varma was an excellent filmmaker and he had made some classic movies.

He also produced several successful directors from his school - including Puri Jagannath, Krishna Vamsi and Harish Shankar. But in the later years, he had fallen from grace and churned out meaningless movies with poor quality.

Now, one wonders what made Varma to show his “true repentance.”

Maybe, he has realised his folly of making controversial political films attacking Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu and deputy CM Pawan Kalyan and his derogatory comments on social media that landed him in police cases.

Secondly, he also might have realized that his non-sensical films had brought him disgrace, rather than any popularity and people have started bad about him for his cheap gimmicks.

Thirdly, he might have also come to the realization that he was simply wasting his energies and talent by making nonsensical films and losing the opportunities to make a big money, when other directors who don’t even match his calibre and talent, are minting money.

Since he said he still has half a life left, Varma can focus on making good films and earn name and fame, thereby proving to the film industry that he can still give the other directors a run for their money!
