Why 'Salaar' Failed To Beat 'Gabbar Singh'?

With the initial buzz around Salaar, many expected it to become the biggest opener among re-releases, surpassing Gabbar Singh. However, it fell short by a massive 52.73%.

For reference, Gabbar Singh (re-release) raked in Rs 6.77 crore on day one at the Indian box office, while Salaar couldn’t come close.

The reason is simple — timing. Successful re-releases happen after a long gap, allowing nostalgia to build.

Salaar was released just a year ago, and most fans already watched it in theaters. Had it been at least five years old, fans would have flocked to experience it on the big screen again.

Films like Murari, Gabbar Singh, and Jalsa thrived in re-releases because fans missed watching them during their original run.

Younger audiences, who weren’t around back then, and older fans seeking a vintage experience contribute to the success of such re-releases.

With an apparent rush to cash in on Salaar, the makers miscalculated. Any film can pull a crowd if given enough time before re-release. After all, only old wine gains true value.
