Venkat Medapati is APNRT chairman

Andhra Pradesh Non-Resident Telugu (APNRT) Society, a government of Andhra Pradesh initiative established during the previous Telugu Desam Party regime, has now got a new chief, following the change of guard in the state.

According to sources, Medapati Venkat from California will be the new chairman of APNRT.

He will be replacing Ravi Vemuri, who is believed to be closer to former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu.

The APNRT website also has conveniently removed the name of Naidu, obviously following the change in government.

It simply said: “The NRT division dedicated exclusively to cater to the needs of the NRTs has been formed under the leadership of the Honourable Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh.”

It also replaced the photograph of Naidu with that of new chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The APNRT which was formed to unite the Telugu Diaspora worldwide and provide them the right platform to engage with their motherland in ways and means which are symbiotic in nature, was allotted huge extent of land by the Naidu government at Amaravati to build an NRI tower.

Now that Jagan took over and all projects that were not grounded yet have been cancelled, the APNRT tower has also more or less been halted, if not scrapped.

It remains to be seen whether it will resume with Medapati Venkat taking over as the new APNRT chairman.
