Vanga Explains Bobby Deol's Mute Character in Animal

One of 2023’s most talked-about films, Animal, featured a silent yet menacing antagonist.

Recently, director Sandeep Reddy Vanga revealed why Bobby Deol’s character was portrayed as both hearing and speech impaired.

During his appearance on Game Changers, Vanga explained, “We’ve seen many films where the hero and villain exchange insults over the phone or engage in lengthy dialogue battles throughout. I wanted to take a different approach.”

The first half of Animal focuses on Ranbir Kapoor’s character and his complex relationship with his father, played by Anil Kapoor, before Deol’s character makes his dramatic entrance.

Vanga elaborated on his decision: “Since we’ve seen so many of these verbal exchanges in films, I thought of sketching the villain as both mute and deaf. The very idea of a speech- and hearing-impaired antagonist fighting in the climax was incredibly exciting.”

Following his remarkable comeback in Animal, Bobby Deol has seen a career resurgence, particularly in South Indian cinema.

He has already taken on antagonist roles in major projects like Suriya’s Kanguva and is currently part of Thalapathy Vijay’s final film before his full-time entry into politics.
