Last weekend at the box office, Nandamuri Balakrishna, Thalapathy Vijay, and Ravi Teja competed with new films.
Vijay created a box office storm in the United States for the first time, surprising everyone, including trade pundits.
"Leo," directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj and starring Vijay and Trisha, grossed a record-breaking 4.68 million in its first weekend in the United States. This is an insane number for Vijay.
He is not known to have a such market in the United States, as "Mersal" was the only film that came close to crossing the $2 million mark. None of his recent films have grossed more than $1.5 million.
But "Leo" not only broke new ground for him, but it may also become the second highest-grossing Tamil film of all time in the United States.
#Leo: Wed: $1,857,010 Thu: $672,518 Fri: $684,107, Sat: $763,928, Sun: $700k (apprx) Total: $4.68M
On the other hand, Nandamuri Balakrishna's "Bhagavanth Kesari" easily surpassed the $1 million mark in its first weekend.
The premiere shows brought in more than half a million dollars for the film. However, it slowed and consistently posted collections ranging from 145k to $150k each day on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. As a result, it easily passed the $1 million mark.
#BhagavanthKesari Wed: $512,680 Thu: $145,625 Fri: $145,246 Sat: $151,627 Sun: $76k (apprx) Weekend Gross: $1M
"Tiger Nageswara Rao" bombed at the box office in the United States. With these two films dominating the show, Ravi Teja's film was a flop.
