Uncertainty ends: Nagababu to become MLC

Putting an end to the speculations over the fate of Jana Sena Party general secretary and senior Tollywood actor Konidela Nagababu, the party on Wednesday afternoon announced him as the candidate for member of state legislative council (MLC).

According to a statement, Jana Sena Party president Pawan Kalyan has finalised the name of Nagababu as the party candidate for the MLC seat under MLAs’ quota, elections for which are scheduled to be held on March 20.

The party said Pawan Kalyan has instructed the party office to prepare the necessary documents for Nagababu's nomination. He is expected to file the nomination papers on Friday.

Till Wednesday morning, there was uncertainty about what post Nagababu would be given.

While the MLC seat was the original option as chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu promised to take Nagababu into the state cabinet, some reports in the media, particularly in pro-TDP media, said Pawan Kalyan had recommended his brother’s name for a corporation chairman post.

Another pro-TDP media house said Pawan Kalyan is insisting on Rajya Sabha nomination for Nagababu. But there were no official statements from the party. Finally, the party issued a statement confirming the MLC seat for Nagababu.

In all five seats are going to fall vacant by March 29, when the term of sitting MLC – Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, Janga Krishna Murthy, P Ashok Babu, B Tirumala Naidu and Duvvarapu Rama Rao will end.

Since the YSRCP doesn’t have enough number of MLAs to contest the MLC elections, it won’t field any candidate. As such, all the five candidates of the coalition will get elected unanimously.
