In an indication to the further widening of gap between the Andhra Pradesh government and the Tollywood, the Telugu film producers’ council on Monday strongly condemned the comments made by YSR Congress party MLA Nallapureddy Prasanna Kumar Reddy against the film producers.
In the morning, Prasanna Kumar Reddy described the Telugu film producers as “balisina vallu” (flush with money).
“They are all staying Hyderabad and have least concern for Andhra Pradesh. They have become arrogant. What is wrong in reducing the cinema ticket prices? It will only help the common audiences,” he observed.
Describing the YSRC MLA’s comments as an insult to the entire film industry, the producers’ council, in a statement, said the comments were highly reprehensible and baseless.
“He should remember that the success rate of Telugu films is only two to five percent. All the remaining films face heavy loss. Yet, the producers have been making films by providing employment to lakhs of people in all the 24 crafts in the industry,” the council said in a statement.
It said many producers spend crores of rupees to make films, some of them even selling their assets. There are producers who had lost everything and are taking pension of Rs 3,000 from the producers’ council. It clearly shows the pathetic situation of the producers, the statement said.
Stating that the MLA had made derogatory comments against producers, the council said it was strongly condemning the MLA’s remarks and demanded that he should immediately withdraw the same.
