More than half a dozen films were announced for Sankranthi release as producers hoped that things would be back to normal by then.
But neither the spread of the virus has slowed down nor the vaccine is ready till now. There’s no hope at least for another three months going by the global trends.
Hence, many producers have decided to pull out their films out of the Sankranthi race. Only Raviteja’s Krack is still eyeing at Sankranthi release.
Besides that, there is only a low budget film produced by UV Creations. Even films like Red and Love Story are out of contention as of now.
Sekhar Kammula’s Love Story starring Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi wouldn’t release in theaters until the situation became normal in the USA. Stakes are high for the film in overseas markets and producers cannot afford to lose such a vast market.
Ram’s Red has been ready since March 2020, but there isn’t any financial pressure on the producer.
Nitin’s Rang De may opt for direct to digital release if they get a handsome deal. Same is the case with Akhil’s Most Eligible Bachelor.
Many other films that queued up for Sankranthi release are now either getting rescheduled for summer release or looking to take the OTT route.
