Mohanlal, the enduring icon of Malayalam cinema, has shared his thoughts on the evolving nature of superstardom in the Indian film industry.
Speaking candidly, he reflected on the so-called "superstar culture" and whether it’s fading with the new generation of actors.
"Titles like ‘superstar’ or ‘megastar’ are not self-assumed — they're given by the audience after years of consistent success," he said, adding, "It was a gradual development."
When asked about the future of stardom among younger actors, Mohanlal expressed optimism.
"There will definitely be great actors from the younger generation. But they need good scripts. They need strong directors and talented co-stars. I was lucky — I got to work with amazing filmmakers and brilliant colleagues. They shaped who I became."
On the professional front, Mohanlal is gearing up for the release of L2: Empuraan, directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran.
Touted as one of the most expensive films in Malayalam cinema, the political thriller is slated to hit theatres on March 27.
