Tollywood has long been intertwined with politics, with many stars transitioning into leadership roles after their film careers.
This trend, is not new, but for sometime in last 10 years there was no much influence of Tollywood on politics.
But now it is evident than ever as numerous film personalities hold key political positions. The industry’s presence in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana politics seems to be stronger than before.
Power star Pawan Kalyan now serves as the Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, while veteran actor Nandamuri Balakrishna has been elected MLA for the third time.
Mega brother Nagababu recently became an MLC, and renowned producer Dil Raju holds the position of Telangana FDC chairman.
Additionally, former lady superstar Vijayashanti has also secured an MLC seat today, further strengthening Tollywood’s political influence.
The only major name missing from this political wave is Megastar Chiranjeevi. Speculation has been rife that he may soon be nominated to the Rajya Sabha under the artist quota. If that happens, the influence further solidifies.
Well, whether these Tollywood personalities will contribute to their industry or serve the people, or simply enjoy the power, remains a debatable topic.
