TDP manages to hold one municipality, finally!

At last, Telugu Desam Party got the consolation win in Tadipatri municipality by successfully managing to keep its flock together to retain the majority mark.

Out of 36 seats, the TDP won 18 seats, while its alliance partner CPI won one seat and an independent candidate alsi pledged his support to the TDP.

The YSRCP has won 16 seats and has two ex-officio members —Tadipatri MLA Kethireddy Peddareddy and Anantapur MP Talari Rangaiah.

With the Andhra Pradesh high court rejecting the plea of TDP MLC Deepak Reddy seeking that he be allowed to be included as an ex-officio member of the Tadipatri municipality, the TDP could not get any ex-officio members.

A tense atmosphere prevailed in the municipality, as there was a suspicion that the YSR Congress party might poach some of the TDP members.

However, J C Prabhakar Reddy, who contested for the municipal chairman post, shifted all his party members to a camp and ensured that there are no defections into the YSRC.

On Thursday, when the election took place, the YSRC strength including the two ex-officio members remained 18, whereas the TDP strength along with two other supporting members was 20.

As a result, Tadipatri Municipal Commissioner P Narasimha Prasad declared election of Prabhakar Reddy as municipal chairman and P Saraswati as the vice-chairperson.

The TDP, however, could not retain the Mydukuru municipality, despite having majority wards in the recent elections.

The TDP which won 12 wards in 23-member municipality failed to get the municipal chairman and vice-chairman posts, as one of its members – Shaik Mahabubi, abstained from voting.

On the other hand, the YSRC got two ex-officio votes, thereby increasing its tally to 13. As a result, it could easily grab the municipality.

YSRC member Machunuru Chandra was elected as Mydukuru municipal chairman, while another member Mahabub Sharif was elected vice-chairman.
