India, particularly south India produced countable number of female directors. Among them, the number of those who directed star heroes is negligible.
Sudha Kongara is one director who always dreamed big and worked really hard to achieve them.
Made her debut with a flop, many thought it’s the end of her career.
She even kept her dream project aside to prove herself and made a bilingual film Irudhi Suttru (Saala Khadoos in Hindi) as her second film.
The film was a super duper hit and she remade it in Telugu as Guru with Venkatesh. The Telugu version was much bigger hit.
Then, Sudha Kongara took up her ambitious project Aakasam Nee Haddura (Soorarai Pottru in Tamil) and Suriya came on board to do the challenging role.
Based on Captain GR Gopinath’s book Simply Fly, Sudha Kongara fictionalized and dramatized the story to make it as a perfect commercial potboiler.
The film was released for Diwali-week and the kind of response it is receiving would have made them forget all the struggles they went through during the making.
It was a tough decision to release the film on OTT, but according to the director it was a right decision under the unfavorable circumstances.
Captain Gopinath too lauded Sudha Kongara, Suriya and the entire team for making a brilliant film and what more she can ask for.
Unlike regular biographical films, Sudha showed ups and downs of the pioneer, rather than only focusing on positive side of the person.
It was an emotional roller coaster ride for viewers to see the life story of Gopinath.
Sudha Kongara flies high in the sky with the success of Aakasam Nee Haddura. But, she is not relaxed.
The director who loves to take up challenges will be coming up with another grand scale film and the details will be announced once she is ready with final draft and signs a hero for the same.
Kudos to Sudha Kongara for believing in herself and pushing harder to realize what she is dreaming for!
